Location
Washington is a county seat town in southeast Iowa with a population of approximately 8,000. It is in the center of a thriving agricultural area and home to many industries which are an important part of the community and economy. The United Presbyterian Home is located 1 mile east of the downtown square, offering shops, restaurants, a movie theater & other businesses. The fully accredited Washington County Hospital & Clinics is located in the city, which provides extensive services including inpatient stays, outpatient surgery, orthopedics, sleep studies and more. Additional medical services are available only 30 minutes away in Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa and its medical school, hospitals and clinics.
Washington abounds in churches of many denominations (including an 825-member Presbyterian Church), all of them with open and friendly doors.
An active older adult’s program is centered at the “largest small-town YMCA in the world” with many and varied services, programs and activities. Subsidized transportation for the elderly is available through the Minibus Service. We are also proud of our beautiful Washington Community Center which offers the best in plays, musicals, concerts and other programs to the city.
