Washington, IA – After several years of planning and research, the United Presbyterian Home is excited to embark on an expansion plan for the retirement community that will house new private rooms as well as modern wellness and therapy spaces. The construction will include an addition on to the south hall of the current Health Center. The addition will include 17 private rooms along with converting existing semi-private rooms to private rooms, the development of a 16 bed dementia specific area and the expansion of our current wellness and fitness area to include a therapy pool.
“The baby boomers are with us and they want private rooms,” said CEO and President of the UP Home, Mike Moore. “The demand for a dementia specific area is a must and emphasis on expanding our high quality wellness and fitness programs to meet the needs of the 55 and older population is the frosting on the cake.”
One of the major aspects of the project is to convert to mostly private accommodations throughout the existing Health Center. The transformation will create designated spaces for short-term stays (rehab, hospice, respite, etc.) and dementia specific needs. The addition of multiple small dining rooms as well as family conference and lounge areas will help create a more ‘home’ like feel for our residents and their families.
The lower level of the addition will have first-class wellness, fitness and therapy facilities which will include a 8 -10 person therapy pool with locker room area. Best of all, these spaces and services will be opened not just to UP Home residents, but to all adults over the age of 55. The current mission of our Wellness and Fitness Department is to help residents with personal wellness, but the UP Home wants to extend that mission to the outlying community.
